Got myself an iRig HD and have just started tinkering around with Amplitube and Garageband on the iPad Air.
On the face of it Amplitude looks a more professional product at this point.
I'm not sure I want to go up the learning curve of getting conversant with the two interfaces, also Amplitude stings you for additional dosh for in-app add-ons to turn the app into a fully functional studio, although I don't mind paying for the add-ons if I'm making the right choice.
Any advice from anyone here that has gone through this would be much appreciated.
Ta.
Perhaps there's another app for the iPad that I've not considered that is better than both of the above?

Guitar Garageband App
As a musician who loves the portability and ease of use of Apple’s Garageband app for IOS, I was blown away by the idea of IK Multimedia’s iRig. “What’s that? It allows me to plug my Guitar directly into my iPad/iPhone AND record straight to the Garageband app using all of it’s built in amp models. In this 9 chapter guide we discuss everything related to using an acoustic and electric guitar with GarageBand, for both amp modeling, effects processing and recording.
